Military History Museum named after Hero of the Soviet Union K. S. Zaslonov
Short but bright K. S. Zaslonov's life served as a model for more than one generation of Soviet people. To perpetuate the name of the famous partisan brigade commander, by decision of the Council of Ministers of the BSSR No. 230 in Orsha the Memorial Museum of the Hero of the Soviet Union K.S. Zaslonov was opened on August 1, 1948.
Initially, the museum was located in the left wing of the House of Culture of Railway Workers named after S.M. Kirov. A small exposition was arranged in two rooms. Photographs of K.S. Zaslonov, his comrades-partisans were attached to the walls in separate frames.
On April 20, 1952, the building of the former House of Pioneers of the Railway Junction at 9 Molokova Street was transferred to the museum, where it's still located today. On November 14, on the day of the 10th anniversary of Zaslonov's death, the new exposition was opened to visitors. The Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War provided great assistance in creating that exposition. Former Zaslonov partisans, Zaslonov's comrades in transport, and residents of Orsha participated in the collection of materials for the museum.
From 1973 to 1983, the museum underwent major changes. The acquisition of funds became better, the building was overhauled, an extension was made to the main building. In 1976, the museum's exposition was redesigned. Leading Minsk artists V.N. Solovyov, R.S. Malinovsky, V.N. Ermonin took part in its creation.
In 1994, a new chapter was opened in the history of the museum: it became a branch of the Cultural Institution "Museum Complex of History and Culture of the Orsha Region". Since that moment, the activities of the museum have been improved in the main areas, exhibition activities are expanding, and new forms of museum work are being applied.
Today, the museum is promoting the patriotic education of youth, actively supporting the program of international cooperation, exhibition activity has moved to a new level - the subject of exhibitions has become wider, more interesting, museum staff organize diverse cultural events, conduct extensive research work, museum attendance is growing due to variety of thematic excursions and quality of service for visitors.
